The Tiger and funding...
What does everyone think about the Tiger not accepting funding from the student activity fee?

I hope they can stay afloat...i mean they were only taking 2 dollars from every student...doesnt seem like much of a fee to get 30 or so papers.

The fact that The Tiger decided to not take funding this year should not be an issue based on their payroll policy. But if you read today's Observer that is exactly what it is becoming. The Tiger decided to not take the money to avoid any semblence of control that might come from any University front.

It's a wise move on their part. If they can swallow cutting staff salaries, it should give them a lot of freedom. It's good to step away from being the University's bitch.

Except no salaries are being cut. The payroll is being kept exactly where it was when they had funding.

It never was. The Observer staff always claims that to somehow give themselves more credibility over The Tiger. Considering The Observer was almost kicked off the media advisory board and once had an editor forcibly removed by the University in 1999, I would say the University has more control over The Observer than The Tiger. |

You know I had almost forgotten about that. I was around when that happened and I remember how much of a big deal it was. Congrats on a point well made. |

Since they don't take any money now, does that mean they are going to bring back that person who said he plagiarized?

Just because they no longer take money does not mean that they are going to bring back Lowery. He left because of his actions and whether or not The Tiger takes funding does not change those actions. Just because a newspaper changes funding or management does not mean that anyone who left the staff for reasons such as plagerism has the option to come back. |
