Name this NES game.

I'm trying to remember the name of an old Nintendo game. Does this sound familiar:

It was a ninja themed side scroller. The main character wore red and had a sword that would grow and sprout spike when you found hidden power ups. The most memorable feature was how amazingly high you could jump. You could actually move up an entire screen by jumping. (This was back in the day when jumping was a crucial skill. If a particular character could jump higher than the rest, they were instantly cooler.) I also remember that the final boss was a wizard or some such that would spread his arms and send waves of energy at you. Any ideas?
