View Full Version : The hick town thread

I just realized today, after 19 years in the place, that there isn't a single place in my town that delivers. I was at work and starving with no way to get food, and the eppiphony hit me. Now i shall proceed to bash my small, hick hometown with in an inch of its life:
~First cousins have gotten married here
~Pizza hut is the "nice" place to eat around here
~We found our new pet pig Grace running around in the Wachovia parking lot
~A lot of high school students don't have a first class because they go hunting and then come to school in their camo

more shall come.

NEXT!...

At least you have a pizza hut, Townville doesn't even have a gas station. I think there is only 1 church in the town... that's insane for south carolina. I've only been here 3 years though, but back in new york...

Accord, NY... there were actually 2 gas stations and 1 you could get subs at, but not delivered of course, it'd cost more for the gas to deliver than the sandwich itself everything is so spread out there. The high school was in Accord, but most kids still lived 20 minutes away from it. I'd say 30-40% of my high school regularly smoked pot because, well, there wasn't much else to do. I spent 17 years of my life there then breaks from college for another 3 and I don't miss it a bit.

Edit: I thought of another church in Townville, but still that's only 2.

Yes, it's called Townville, it's only 20 minutes from Clemson, just in a direction no one ever goes. The story I heard about it is there was going to be a railroad line that ran through it, but it never happened so the town like was built in anticipation then stopped and aside from the Dollar General that was built last year i think the newest building in the "city" limits is probably 60 years old at least.

Nice and relaxing for 20 years is a bit overkill though.

hmmm...I guess Salem is a little better off than townville...

we have about 4 gas stations...though no restaurants (at least, no chain restaurants...we do have a pizza place and a pizza place inside of one of the gas stations).

Our most hick things is our memorial to the confederate soldiers...we are flying a confederate flag and have a statue type thing in down town.

edit: oh, and we have about 7 churches...

Although, admittedly, there are quite a few restaurants. including ones that deliver. and an outlet mall.

and a movie theater...that has one screen and a projector that's older than my parents.

I don't even really think peaches in general look like that... the water tower itself is just wrong.

My home town, Whitmire, has two restaurants that are pretty good, but they serve meat and three type stuff plus hamburgers and hot dogs. There is also a Chinese place that is good, too. However, there are no chain fast food or sit down places to speak of at all.

I now live in Newberry, and there are tons of restaurants here. However, most of the nice ones in downtown are overpriced because they think they are in Greenville or Columbia and not one step above a hick town. If you are a fast food fan, this is your place. I think it has just about every damn fast food place on the planet.

I was outside Andalusia, AL at the Baisden House in the Baisden Forest.

Albert Baisden was my great-grandfather until two Januaries ago when he died and became a historical figure.

It's a fifteen minute drive from the property to the nearest cell-phone reception.

The guy was born in 1901. Exciting was showing up to find out that this 92 year old had sneaked out of his home, hitched the mule up to the plow, and was working on the watermelon patch when we showed up one day all without my grandparents noticing, and they were supposed to be watching him.

Clemson is a pretty cool place to live. If you get tired of it, you can always drive to a bigger city..then when THAT wears off in a few hours, go back to Clemson where it's quiet and small.

Clemson really isn't that bad when you compare it to other small towns...
Like Ehrhardt, SC. I'll be shocked if anyone's ever heard of it. It's quite the hick town. There's a blinking light, City Hall and the Police Dept are in a one room building about the size of those tiny shitty classrooms we had back in high school. actually, there's only about 2 blocks worth of "town".

Ha, try spending 6 years with your dad (who isn't mean or crazy, but very loving and like every other good dad you would know) w/o your mother who had passed away when you were 12 years old and having to grow up without her. My dad was wonderful, but I needed my ma too. Plus, staying in the same house (w/o cable or a dish) and town (Greenwood, SC) during every break. Boy am I glad to be graduating and getting my own apt. in May. Hallelujah! :)

I've been at home for some of the break and in ATL with my sister and brother-in-law for some of the break...I refuse to make my life in Greenwood, SC...lol. I want to go to a larger city like Charlotte or ATL. But, I am also planning on going to grad school too...so, I hope it all works out.
